Allen County Superior Judge To Retire

On Tuesday, Allen Superior Judge Stanley Levine announced his intention to retire in December, closing out two decades on the bench and a 55-year legal career.

Levine currently serves as the administrative judge of Superior Court’s Civil Division, and its probate judge. He was appointed to the bench in 1999 by then-Governor Frank O’Bannon, and re-elected three times, according to a statement from the Allen Superior Court.

“Adherence to the rule of law is one of the things that make our nation great,” Levine said. “Every citizen of this nation has access to our Court system to settle disputes in a systematic and just fashion. Each time that I have walked into our Allen County Courthouse, I have been awed, not only by the majesty and beauty of this building, but to be a part of this process of dispensing justice.”

His current term does not expire until Dec. 31, 2020. His last day on the bench will be Dec. 31, 2018. His replacement will be appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb from a group of finalists to be identified by the Allen County Judicial Nominating Commission.

Levine graduated from South Side High School,, and a graduate of Indiana University and IU’s Maurer School of Law.

With the announcement of his retirement, Levine joins Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck of the criminal division who is also stepping down at the end of the year after a lengthy career on the bench.
