Laura Bonano's sense of humor helped her get through her "rough days in Iraq and Afghanistan, and became an important part of her blog and essay writing.

Fort Wayne author, Laura Bonano has taken a look at the large and small wonders of life in her debut book, entitled "Why Is There a Toothbrush in the Bushes."

This outspoken writer's eclectic collection of essays focuses on an assortment of personal experiences, from exploring her Hoosier roots, to three tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.

To Bonano, crashing through life produces a series of "Why's?" she enjoys asking.

While on tour, a career change from MP to photojournalist provided the author with a momentum to take her blog writing to a whole new level, and expand on the growing bunch of short thoughts and stories she'd been amassing.

Now that she's back in Fort Wayne, winding down  her years in the Army reserve, and pursuing a career in social work, she finds her experiences, blogging and essays continuing to flow, in ever new directions.

Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with Bonano to learn what passions have driven her writing and forged its style, and define her action-oriented career path as well.

You can connect with Laura at her official Author's Facebook Page.
