Hamilton Community Schools Seek Budget Remedy

Hamilton Community Schools

Hamilton Community Schools officials will host an executive meeting Thursday regarding the referendum to increase property taxes recently turned down by voters.

Property taxes would have jumped to $0.71 per $100 of property value and expire in 8 years. The current $0.44 per $100 is set to expire in 2020.

Hamilton Schools Superintendent Anthony Cassel says the school system will begin to weigh options moving forward and says any path the school system takes will be a lengthy process.

KPC News reports that without an operating referendum, the district will be $2.6 million short of covering its expenses in 2020.

Former district superintendent

Nicole Singer suggested cutbacks in staffing and programming if the referendum did not pass.

Cassel says Hamilton Community Schools tries to be transparent and keep the public informed on school issues and will continue to do so as they move through the process.
