INDOT: No Date For Substantial Completion Of I-69 Section 5

WFIU/WTIU News

The Indiana Department of Transportation says it doesn’t have an exact date for when it will achieve substantial completion of I-69 Section 5.

Construction on the stretch of interstate from Bloomington to Martinsville was supposed to wrap up two years ago.

The state took the project over last year after a private developer tasked with building and maintaining Section 5 faced significant financial problems and delays.

Scott Manning is Strategic Communications Director for INDOT. He says how quickly crews can finish remaining work on the interstate depends on the weather.

"What really is between us and substantial completion is getting the guardrail work and lane striping work done," Manning says. "And, we’re hoping that within the next couple of weeks we’ll have that completed."

Manning says regular lane restrictions will go away once that work is complete.

When the state took I-69 construction over, it hoped to finish mainline construction by August of this year.
