Fairfield Elementary Students Keep Time To Old Fashioned Music Traditions

Sean Ellsworth-Hoffman, known to his students as Mr. E, feels that the joy the kids get from the music they make is his most important take-away from the experience.

Throughout the school year, Fort Wayne resident Sean Ellsworth-Hoffman teaches English as a second language at Fairfield Elementary, on the city's south side.

But his passion for playing American and Irish fiddle music drove him to create an after school club for 4th and 5th graders to learn the craft, as well.

The club meets twice a week, for an hour each session, and Ellsworth-Hoffman keeps the school's assortment of instruments in repair, and ready for action.

This year's group has performed on our own Meet the Music sound stage, and is getting ready for its appearance at the Fort Wayne FAME Festival this Sunday.

Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek met with Sean to discuss what it took to begin such a project, and where this musical adventure has led.
