Second Democrat Drops Out Of Race For Governor

Indiana Senate Democrats

Indiana State Sen. Karen Tallian announced Monday she is withdrawing from the race for governor. The Democrat is the second candidate to leave the gubernatorial race. Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz withdrew her candidacy earlier this month.

Tallian said in a statement she supports the only remaining Democrat, former House Speaker John Gregg.

"My congratulations go out to John Gregg, and I support his efforts to lead this state," the statement said. "I will continue to build on my decade of experience as a state senator, fighting to ensure equal rights, well-paying jobs, and quality education for all Hoosiers. I want to extend my heartfelt thank you to all of my supporters for your belief in a more progressive Indiana.”

Gregg will face Republican incumbent Gov. Mike Pence in 2016.
