Indiana’s ISTEP+ test has been riddled with controversy in recent years for its administration, increased difficulty, and lack of transparency.
On Monday, Southwest Allen County Schools Superintendent Dr. Phil Downs issued an open letter to parents and families of the district stating his criticisms of the test.
Last week, Democratic Senator Mark Stoops proposed a hold harmless to limit the effect of the low ISTEP+ scores. Republicans were lukewarm to the idea and proposed a more long-term fix of the test.
WBOI’s Zach Bernard spoke with Dr. Downs about his concerns with ISTEP+, and how he thinks the process can be improved.
