Early voting numbers are on the rise across the nation. A recent analysis conducted by University of Florida professor and early voting expert Michael McDonald says 11 million people have voted early across the country already - an increase of more than three million this time in the last midterm elections.
Voters are showing similar enthusiasm for the November 6 midterms in Allen County.
Director of elections Beth DeLug says this year’s early voting numbers in Allen County are nearly three times higher than they were this time in the 2014 midterm season.
“We are at a little over 6,200 votes in early voting in-person on a machine, and at this time in 2014 we had 2,400. So that’s a significant increase,” DeLug said.
She adds that mail-in numbers have also gone up, from 4,600 ballots at this point in 2014 to 7,800 this year.
She says she expects that number to continue increasing; on October 31, four more satellite polling locations will open in Allen County where residents can vote early.
