COVID-19 numbers are inching upwards again as more cases of the Delta variant are reported throughout Indiana.
According to the Indiana Department of Health, the state’s 7-day positivity is now up to 2.8 percent, having been down to 2.1 percent last month.
In northeast Indiana, the 7-day positivity rate is up to 3.2 percent. The W-H-O has considered positivity rates over 5 percent to be dangerous for community spread.
A number of Indiana counties are now back in the yellow for COVID safety, having been in the blue or safest category. Steuben County is now in the yellow, the state’s second-safest category.
This metric is based on 7-day positivity and cases per 100,000 residents.
No new deaths were reported Wednesday in northeast Indiana, but only Wells County saw no new cases reported Wednesday.
Statewide, hospitalizations are up to 423, among that number 26 residents of northeast Indiana.
Nearly 230 cases of the highly-contagious delta variant have been reported in the state, up from 196 cases Friday.
There have been 2,572 breakthrough COVID cases, with 125 of those resulting in hospitalizations and 41 resulting in death. The average age of breakthrough deaths due to COVID is 79.
