Jan. 18: Allen County opens temporary COVID testing site amid Omicron surge

The Allen County Department of Health is opening a temporary COVID-19 testing and vaccination site on Fort Wayne’s northside as numbers continue to remain at or near record levels.

The site, 3816 New Vision Drive will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays starting tomorrow through Jan. 22 and from Jan. 26 until the close of business on Jan. 29.

There were 651 new cases reported in Allen County Tuesday, according to the Allen County Department of Health.

The Indiana Department of Health has now recorded more than 1,000 deaths due to the virus in Allen County, with a total of 1,007.

Nearly one quarter of the area’s ICU capacity is occupied by COVID patients, with only 13 percent remaining. Sixty-three percent is occupied by non-COVID patients.

Area hospitalizations are at 341, a number that has remained nearly steady for the past two weeks, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Statewide, there is only about 11 percent of ICU capacity remaining, with 35 percent occupied by COVID patients.
