Abortion-rights advocates gathered in front of the Allen County Courthouse Sunday evening in response to the leaked draft opinion by the US Supreme Court not to uphold Roe v. Wade. WBOI’s Ella Abbott has more.
The protest began at 5 P.M. on Sunday, but some supporters showed up earlier. Many held signs or were t-shirts showing support for abortion access.
Andrea Mendez was one of the protestors who showed up.
“Our mothers, our grandmothers have already tried to fight this fight. Like, we shouldn’t even be doing this s*** again. I mean, it’s exhausting.”
Passing cars honked to show support as they passed down South Clinton Street in front of the courthouse. Mendez and other protesters say they saw some counter protesters.
Indiana Senate House Speaker Todd Huston and Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray wrote a letter to Governor Eric Holcomb in March requesting a special session if Roe is overturned. Earlier this week, Holcomb said a special session isn’t off the table.
