Fort Wayne Community Schools superintendent Mark Daniel surprises secretary/treasurer Sharon McGhee with the honor of FWCS Employee of the Year at Study Elementary School on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Fort Wayne Community Schools surprised one secretary today with the district’s first ever Employee of the Year award.

Sharon McGhee is the Secretary/Treasurer at Study Elementary School and has spent 25 years with the district, with the last 11 at Study.

Superintendent Mark Daniel, along with McGhee’s principal and other district officials, surprised McGhee in her office to give her the award for Employee of the Year.

McGhee said the honor is a big one and a testament to her dedication to helping the kids and families at Study.

“I think it’s just the fact I come in each and every day and I put on my ‘it’s not about me’ hat," she said. "My goal is to serve our students, their families and my coworkers.”

McGhee was nominated by her principal, Elizabeth Kleber, who said McGhee is the “embodiment of see-a-need, fill-a-need.” Kleber says McGhee can be asked about any student and will know them, their family and how to get in touch with them.

Daniel said it's important for the district to not only recognize the efforts of teaching staff, but also non-teaching employees who keep schools running and help children learn and grow.
