The students were able to premiere their short films at Bones Theater in Columbia City on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Columbia City High School’s Eagle Tech Academy offers students the opportunity to create their own short film as part of their Film Lit course for seniors.

Groups from the seven different films sat down before they premiered on June 2, to talk about their films and the obstacles they faced making them.

Boris' Game

Seniors Tristan Saye, Ivan Lesley and Jake Straub set out to tell a story about love and human connection in an apocalyptic world with their film Boris’ Game. Saye speaks about the struggles that went into making the film and how his real life experiences influenced the main character’s journey.

Cassie

Cassie is a dark look at how mental health services can fail. Seniors Angel Yelton and Caris Murphy wanted to start a dialogue about mental health in teens and how all the right resources may still not work for someone who lacks support.

Covert Cabal

In an accidentally-comedic homage to morality-testing media like Breaking Bad, seniors Matthew Hoskins, Hailey Whiteleather and Allan Maggard tell the story of a student resource officer who, desperate to pay for his son’s medical bills, begins selling drugs to students.

Equivocal

In their film Equivocal, seniors Jack Mills, Ian Harold, Jackson Moore and Peyton Pope wanted to tell a story about warring moralities and the way grief and loss can warp our perception of justice.

The Last Class

As graduating seniors, Hannah Tower, Adelyn Berry and Tabitha Barcus decided to draw from their own experiences and anxieties to tell the story of a girl who’s dangerously close to not graduating from high school – and the people who rallied around her to help make it happen.

The Panic Party

The Panic Party is a comedy slasher film that shows a big homage to a phenomenon that defined the horror genre at the end of the last century. Seniors Keelan Stewart, Connor Cornwell, Zoe Krick and Amanda South used a whopping number of six main actors to tell a story of jealousy.

Through The Ringer

Seniors Earl Herron and Tyler Darley faced no shortage of obstacles while putting together this film about struggling with depression and substance abuse – not the least of which being the decision to scrap their whole initial project to start from scratch with only one week left.
