A Republican caucus selected Allen County Councilman Justin Busch Tuesday night to finish out the term of state Senator President Pro Tem David Long.

Long served in the Indiana senate for 22 years, including a dozen as its leader. In February, he announced his retirement. Long is now a partner at the powerful Indianapolis-based law firm Ice Miller.

Busch works as the northeast Indiana director for Republican U.S. Senator Todd Young He currently serves as an at-large representative and vice president of the Allen County Council.

In winning the caucus’ vote for the Senate District 16 seat, Busch defeated Parkview Health Public Safety Director Tom Rhoades.

Long’s senate term runs out at the end of 2020. Busch will take over on Nov. 6.
