Allen County now has 90 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and six individuals have passed away.
The total infected in northeast Indiana is at 162, including Allen County, with 10 deaths.
There have been 5,507 Indiana residents who have tested positive for the virus, according to the Indiana Department of Health. 173 Hoosiers have died. Nearly 28,800 have been tested.
A Purdue University Fort Wayne staff member has tested positive, but is believed to have had limited contact with individuals on campus, according to university officials.
Indiana’s coronavirus hot spot remains Marion County, and the Indianapolis-area. There are more than 2,100 people positive for the virus in Marion County.
In a Facebook announcement early Tuesday afternoon, one of Fort Wayne’s flagship festivals announced it would be canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Germanfest, which has been held in early June for 38 years, will not be held this year.
Germanfest organizers hope to announce a smaller German celebration later in the year, according to the post.
Trine University in Angola is working with Parkview to develop pieces of medical equipment that are in short supply during the pandemic, according to a press release.
Among those items under development are 3-D printer respirator mask prototypes and a machine that can automatically pump a manual resuscitator, better known as an Ambu bag.
