Purdue University and Parkview Health moved the annual Tapestry event from September to the spring of 2022 due to the ongoing march in COVID-19 cases.

The move comes as school systems weigh mask mandates, intensive care beds fill up again with COVID patients and the positivity rate around the state approaches 9.5% for the past seven days.

Over half of northeast Indiana is now in the state’s second-worst category for COVID spread, based on 7-day positivity rates and cases per 100,000 residents, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Two new deaths were reported Wednesday, one each in Allen and DeKalb counties.

There were 331 new cases reported in the area on Wednesday, and 156 area residents are  hospitalized with the virus.

Statewide, there were again more than 2,000 cases of COVID from Tuesday, with a total of 2,507 reported Wednesday.

Allen County reported 149 new cases Wednesday from Tuesday.

The highly-contagious Delta variant makes up 82.6 percent of new cases recorded.

More than 2.99 million Hoosiers have been vaccinated fully against the virus.

However, LaGrange and Noble county vaccination rates have not budged in days, according to health department data.
