Liz Firestine is proud of the national and local band pairings on this year's 13th annual playbill.

With the Botanical Conservatory's Botanical Roots Concert Series in full swing, there's a hardy helping of Americana music being served up, under the stars, every Friday night this month.

As Adult Program Coordinator, Liz Firestine explains, the Botanical Conservatory has three major focuses, education, horticulture, and community involvement. By adding a a variety of engaging musical offerings to the mix, the success of the program is ensured, which is apparent in the ever-increasing numbers of concertgoers.

Tim Dickel, back for his 3rd season, this year with Auld Mongrels, is pleased with the Conservatory's garden setting, as well as its sound system.

The explosion of downtown development brings more people into the heart of the arts and culture scene in search of summer evening entertainment, and each week's eclectic pairing of national and local acts, in this family friendly setting, attracts music lovers of all ages.

For a look behind the scenes, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with Firestine, and Tim Dickel, one of this week's local performers, to learn the secret of its popularity, and what combinations of roots music audiences can expect in the coming weeks.
