City Unveils New Website For Survivors Of Violence

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry’s Commission on Domestic Violence, Rape and Sexual Assault launched a new website Thursday to connect survivors with resources.

The website -- www.endtheviolencefortwayne.org-- offers a “Get Help” button to quickly provide individuals in immediate danger with information on what to do. A “Quick Exit” button immediately returns the viewer to Google’s homepage if the abuser enters the room while the victim is looking for help.

“My Commission on Domestic Violence, Rape and Sexual Assault is a critical component to the current and future success of Fort Wayne. The Commission works diligently to provide essential services to individuals in need in our community and this website is one more way to let individuals know that there are resources available to them,” Henry said in a release Thursday.

“Violent crimes of any nature have no place in Fort Wayne and I appreciate and value the work that my Commission is doing to make Fort Wayne the best and safest city possible,” he said.

Information is available to individuals in 58 different languages, including Arabic, Serbian and Spanish.

There are tips to creating a safety plan, links to various organizations which can provide help, as well as information about rights and laws related to stalking, molestation, sexual battery and other crimes.

“The Commission’s goal is to identify the practical and immediate needs of survivors and to continually evaluate and improve the victim services available in our community,” said Jessica Crozier, Fort Wayne Police Department Director of Victim Assistance, in a news release.

“This website will help us reach many more victims when they need our help the most, and provide them with more options and pathways toward healing from these crimes.”
