Tom Lewandowski calls the planning and organizng of the yearly picnics "a potluck of responsibility."

The 1st recorded Labor Day celebration in Fort Wayne was held in 1889--five years before the Federal Holiday was actually declared in 1894.

With its present incarnation, the Organized Labors' 34th community-wide Labor Day Picnic is set for this Monday at Headwaters Park East.

WBOI's Julia Meek met with Tom Lewandowski, Executive Director of the Workers Project, to discuss the solidarity such an event symbolizes, and its place in the community.
