Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend Cancels Mass Indefinitely

DIOCESE OF FORT WAYNE-SOUTH BEND
Bishop Kevin Rhodes addressed followers in a video.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend has suspended all public Sunday and weekday Masses beginning tomorrow until further notice.

In an announcement today, the Diocese says the decision comes in light of information and recommendations from health officials concerning coronavirus and is in hopes of preventing the spread.

Bishop Kevin Rhoades wrote a letter to parishioners explaining the decision and encouraging acts of “spiritual communion” outside of Mass.

“Not being able to attend Mass is very difficult spiritually since the Holy Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” As Catholics, we must do our part to help protect those who could be infected by the virus at public gatherings.”

In his letter, the Bishop also offers a prayer from Saint Aphonsus Liguori (alfon-sus ligory) and to watch the Masses being live-streamed from various parishes.

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the Dioceses of Gary, Evansville and Lafayette have also canceled their Masses until further notice.
