The Allen County Executive Board of Health met yesterday for their regular meeting and discussed the changes in the county’s response to COVID-19.
Dr. Matthew Sutter, the Allen County Health Commissioner, said the county has been working to add more contact tracers, and that the team they have is working overtime.
“However, we are a small but mighty team. If you use Harvard Global Health Initiative’s benchmark for how many contact tracers we should have for the county, it’s over 100. And we have eight. So, they’re working their little hearts out.”
Sutter also spoke about the rises in the cases over the past week, as Allen County’s cases have continued to spike, with two record days last week. The positivity rate has also increased to 7 percent.
Sutters said the department has been working to partner with several area universities to research the community with regards to COVID-19.
Sutter also said that, while hospitals are beginning to feel a strain as patients continue to be admitted for coronavirus, they aren’t at capacity yet and fewer patients are being put on ventilators.
