Former HU VP Charged With Misdemeanor Battery

Charges were filed Friday morning against former Huntington University Vice President for Advancement Vincent Haupert in the Huntington Superior Court.

According to the affidavit, Haupert is being charged with battery, a Class B misdemeanor.

The charges came a few weeks after Haupert resigned from the university amid reports of an ongoing law enforcement investigation.

According to court documents, Haupert touched a 21-year-old man who was staying at his home in a sexual manner while the other man was asleep. When he was questioned by police, Haupert admitted the allegations.

Under Indiana law, a Class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a fine up to $1,000.

A warrant has been issued for Haupert, with a bond of $7,000.

Huntington University issued the following statement Friday afternoon:

With the recent filing of misdemeanor battery charges by the Huntington County Prosecutor’s office against a former employee, the hearts of Huntington University’s faculty and staff are in prayer. We are in prayer for the campus community. These are not conversations we take lightly. We hold all faculty and staff to a Biblical moral standard.

There are difficult conversations ahead as we navigate this, but we will continue to maintain the mission and integrity of the institution. We will continue to filter everything we do through the lens of Christ, scholarship and service. We are grateful to the Huntington community for its prayer and support, and we remain committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and respectful learning environment.
