Fort Wayne Commits To New Waste Management Firm

Red River Waste Solutions

Fort Wayne residents will soon pay about two dollars more for trash collection. City Council approved a contract with a new garbage and recycling business Tuesday night, following more than two decades of partnering with Republic.

Red River Waste Solutions bid nearly $7 million for rights to garbage and recycling collection in Fort Wayne, the lowest combined bid among five different companies.

David Cooper is Red River’s vice president of business development. He says Red River will hire locally and bring between 45 and 48 new jobs to Fort Wayne.

“We’ve come into many, many communities where we didn’t have a presence and have been able to bring local folks onto our team, train them how to do things,” said Cooper. “It’s the same thing each and every day.”

Cooper also says customers shouldn’t expect changes to garbage collection days, noting he wants to keep things just as they were under the former contract.

The new contract goes into effect on January 1.
