Funding Request For "Landing" Streetscapes Tabled

A funding request for The Landing development on in downtown Fort Wayne was tabled for later discussion in City Council Tuesday night.

The request seeks $1.4 million for streetscape improvements on along Columbia Street. Council members Russ Jehl and Paul Ensley raised concerns over the ask, citing $2.5 million in Legacy funding they both approved in November 2017. Their vote to approve was contingent on the developer, the Model Group, Inc., not requesting further public funding for the project.

The Landing is a public-private partnership.

While the proposal was discussed at length Tuesday night, there was a disconnect over how the City, state and Council define the construction of the project, which in turn has created confusion on the overall merits of the $1.4 million request.

The vote to table the measure was 8-1; fifth district councilman Geoff Paddock was the lone dissenting vote. It is unclear when Council will revisit it.
