Indiana University’s School of Global and International Studies will now be named after two Indiana’s longest serving public servants.

IU President Michael McRobbie announced Wednesday the school will now be called the Lee H. Hamilton and Richard G. Lugar School of Global International Studies, in honor of the former Congressman and former Senator.

IU says the two demonstrate the importance of pragmatic, nonpartisan solutions to the world’s problems.

Hamilton says he’s thrilled to have his name associated with the school, which he says plays an important role in shaping the future.

"Now these challenges come at us with great rapidity and complexity," Hamilton says. "And knowing that this school is going to meet with those challenges in the best possible way."

Lugar stressed the importance of America’s ongoing role to provide equality of opportunity and individual liberty to places around the globe.

The announcement also kicks off a $25 million fundraising campaign to establish a scholarship program and endowed faculty positions at the school.
