Local Attorney Finalist for State Appeals Court

Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission

Late Wednesday the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission recommended Fort Wayne attorney David Van Gilder as one of three for consideration for a seat on the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Van Gilder, 57, has practiced law since 1990 and is a 1983 graduate of the Washington School of Law at American University. He has been a partner in the local law firm of Van Gilder & Trzynka since 1996.

Van Gilder had his second interview with the Commission Wednesday morning along with six other finalists. His name, along with St. Joseph County Superior Judge Steven Hostetler and Lake County Superior Judge Elizabeth Tavitas, were submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Holcomb has 60 days to select a successor to Appeals Court Judge Michael Barnes.

Barnes is stepping down from the court in early summer.
