Local Music Society Celebrates 150 Years of German Heritage

The club welcomes new members, says Trouten, and no German ancestry is required.

The Fort Wayne Männerchor Damenchor is getting ready to kick off its 150th anniversary year with a song in their hearts and a number of special events to celebrate the love of German music and culture that continues to drive the organization.

First among these festive gatherings will be its Fruelingsfest, a traditional Spring Festival, which takes place at the end of March.

Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with its president, Chad Trouten, to learn about the club's rich musical history, as well as the present place it holds in the community.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
