Mayor Henry Proposes More Money For Fort Wayne Parks

Zach Bernard, WBOI News

The City of Fort Wayne may allocate more money to Parks and Recreation in the upcoming budget.

Mayor Tom Henry is pledging an additional million dollars to the city’s Parks and Recreation for 2016.

Henry says the department deserves more than the $2 million it received in 2015.

He praised the department’s efficiency as one of the main reasons for the proposed increase.

Parks & Recreation Director Al Moll says while an increase in funding could allow for some new projects, the focus would center on improvements to the city’s parks.

“Typically we spread the dollars or allocate them throughout the city, and at the same time focusing on safety, and also just keeping the parks looking well and keeping them running and keeping the citizens happy,” Moll said.

Moll says the department would also add several playgrounds and plant more trees around the parks, but did not indicate where specifically.
