As the coronavirus has kept stay-at-home orders at the state and local level and future events remain clouded in uncertainty, Middle Waves has announced the cancelation of its 2020 music festival.

Set to return after a one-year hiatus for the upcoming weekend of June 12-13 on the Electric Works campus to the public, event organizers announced the official postponement of the event early Monday. Organizers say they are working with artists and bands to reschedule for 2021, and hope to ensure a “similar” lineup to the one scheduled for June.

Cold War Kids and Big Boi were slated to headline the 2020 revival of the festival, but their future involvement is uncertain for now.

All tickets purchased will be transferred to the 2021 festival, or refunded upon request. Further instructions for next steps will be emailed to ticket holders.

Middle Waves organizers had previously expressed an interest to continue going forward with the event in March, but now say that due to the way lives have been altered from the pandemic they “no longer feel it’s in the community’s best interest to proceed as planned.” They add the decision was made with the best interest of volunteers, fans and artists in mind.

The official statement from Middle Waves closed on an optimistic note: “we’ll be back together again in the summer of 2021!”
