Oct. 1: Northeast Indiana lags overall in vaccinations, COVID hospitalizations improve

Northeast Indiana has its lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since late August, with 208.

 

The same holds true throughout the state, with 2,007 hospitalized, also the lowest total since late summer, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

There were 382 new cases of the virus reported in the area on Friday from Thursday, with four additional deaths.

 

Two deaths were reported in Allen County and one each in Kosciusko and Wells counties.

 

The area lags behind the rest of the state in vaccinations, however, with seven of the area’s counties still under 45 percent for the eligible population fully vaccinated.

 

There have been 39,176 breakthrough cases of COVID, less than 1.2 percent of the state’s total case count of 965,982.

 

Northeast Indiana’s 7-day positivity rate has fallen to 9.7 percent, the lowest since early August.

 

Northeast Indiana totals:

  • Adams County: 15 new cases for 4,560 total. No new deaths for 69 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.3%. Percentage of eligible populaton fully vaccinated 38.5%.
  • Allen County: 169 new cases for 55,016 total. 2 new deaths for 773 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.5%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 56.8%.
  • DeKalb County: 29 new cases for 4,970 total. No new deaths for 92 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.9%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 43.6%.
  • Huntington County: 18 new cases for 6,132 total. No new deaths for 97 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.9%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 48.2%.
  • Kosciusko County: 24 new cases for 11,729 total. 1 new death for 141 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.7%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 43.4%.
  • LaGrange County: 14 new cases for 3,342 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.5%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 25.6%.
  • Noble County: 29 new cases for 7,600 total. No new deaths for 101 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.3%. Percentage of eligible poulation fully vaccinated 42.3%.
  • Steuben County: 41 new cases for 5,192 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 47.2%.
  • Wabash County: 14 new cases for 5,009 total. No new deaths for 93 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.6%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 42.9%.
  • Wells County: 14 new cases for 3,995 total. 1 new death for 86 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.5%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 44.6%.
  • Whitley County: 15 new cases for 5,410 total. No new deaths for 54 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.9%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 46.9%.
