Parkview Receives Grants For Rural Residency Program

Parkview Huntington Hospital announced Wednesday their role in the Rural Residency Planning and Development Program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The program, created by the Health Resources and Services Administration aims to expand the rural residency opportunities and help increase the number of doctors that practice in rural areas, helping increase health care quality for rural residents.

Parkview Huntington was awarded about $750,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to create a family medicine rural residency program.

Twenty-seven other facilities have been awarded the grant nationwide.

Parkview officials expect the program to begin in 2022 and accommodate four family medicine residents per year.

Participants would complete their first year of residency in Fort Wayne, and the following years in Huntington.
