Pence makes initial cabinet appointments

Four members of Governor-elect Mike Pence’s cabinet are now in place.

Department of Revenue Commissioner Mike Alley and Department of Administration head Robert Wyncoop will remain in their jobs when Mike Pence takes over the governor’s office in January.  Chris Atkins was general counsel and policy director for the Office of Management and Budget under Governor Daniels and will run that office while Anita Samuel will be the new Director of State Personnel after serving that office as its general counsel.

Pence insists he’s looking for the best candidates regardless of where they come from and isn’t giving preference to Daniels administration leaders.

“And I really don’t bring a bias to it.  I’m neither biased against people that have served the state of Indiana nor people that haven’t,” said Pence.

Pence will hit the road the rest of this week around the state as he celebrates his victory with constituents and speaks with business leaders about filling positions in his administration from the private sector.

“To make sure that we’re taking full advantage of men and women who might be at a point in their career where they’re prepared to become involved in public service,” Pence said.

Pence’s stops this week will include Fort Wayne, South Bend, Terre Haute and Evansville.
