Thousands of Hispanic students, professionals and industry leaders in Indiana and around the country will connect this month for a virtual STEM convention where students will be able to network and learn more about job and internship opportunities.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, a national organization representing Hispanic professionals and students in STEM, includes nearly a dozen schools in Indiana, like Pike High School, the University of Notre Dame and IUPUI.

This year’s national convention will be virtual for the first time ever. According to SHPE, last year, a majority of student attendees were first-generation college students. Organizers said hiring companies are showing diversity and inclusion matters and they’re setting the tone for other businesses in the industry.

SHPE extended its registration deadline to Oct. 26. The convention will take place the last week of October.
