Tall Grass And Weeds Program Begins

Zach Bernard/WBOI News

Fort Wayne’s tall grass and weeds program has kicked off throughout the city.

As of Monday, residents can report problem areas of tall grass and weeds around neighborhoods in Fort Wayne. The city’s neighborhood code calls for grass and weeds to stand no higher than nine inches off the ground.

Violators of the code are given time to comply: inspectors will take date-stamped pictures of the property and place a placard on it indicating the violation. The property owner than has five days to take care of it. If the property owner doesn’t comply, city contractors will mow and charge the owner. Failure to pay results in a lien on that property.

Inspections will begin Tuesday, May 21, not only responding to residential complaints but also reporting issues at primary corridors.
