WBOI Presents: October News Roundup 2018

Nov 12, 2018

The 2018 midterm elections are in the books. We'll begin this week's show with analysis from Andy Downs and then dive into the October News Roundup.

WBOI News Director Rebecca Green opens the show speaking with Andy Downs, Director of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics. The two provided election updates on November 6, and discussed the results of Indiana's high profile US Senate race and the importance of local elections.

October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month. After many widely reported incidents of violence like the shooting in a Pittsburgh synagogue and the suspicious packages mailed to critics of President Trump, WBOI's Ben Clemmer was joined by Paula Hughes-Schuh and Jennifer Rohlf from YWCA Northeast Indiana.

Lisa Koop has been heard on WBOI Presents before. She is an immigration attorney and teaches law at Notre Dame. Immigration remained a contentious issue in the leadup to the 2018 midterms and Koop spoke with Rebecca Green to help separate the facts from the fiction.

WBOI's Zach Bernard covers the Fort Wayne City Council and development projects. October was a busy month for Zach as he joined Ben Clemmer in the studio to discuss updates on the massive Electric Works redevelopment project, a passenger rail line in Fort Wayne, the city budget, and the anexation of the La Cabreah neighborhood.
