WBOI's "Gospel Flight" Host Celebrates 42 Years In Broadcasting

Dee McKinley, volunteer host of WBOI's Sunday Morning "Gospel Flight" for over 30 years, behind the mic and ready for action in the WBOI air studio.

As of this month, Fort Wayne's Dee McKinley has been on the gospel radio broadcasting scene for 42 years, more than 30 of them spent right here at Northeast Indiana Public Radio, as volunteer host of Sunday morning's "Gospel Flight."

Known to her regular listeners as "Sister Dee," McKinley broadcasts from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on WBOI, which she calls, "The hottest hours for Gospel Music." By 4:00 on Sunday afternoon, she's ready to share a two hour "Gospel Express!" on WQSW.

Both shows feature her extensive collection of old and new gospel music favorites, and offer dedicated request lines for her "Frequent Fliers."

Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek invited McKinley into the studio, for a look "behind the mic," at what motivates Dee to share her passion, and her day of rest in this manner.
