Working in Silver: A Conversation with Karen Thompson and Stephen Perfect

Gabriel DeLobbe and Karen Thompson

Photography as a medium has been a perennial favorite among fine artists, amateurs and art enthusiasts alike.

And you might say it's seen a renaissance lately, now that just about everyone has a camera in their pocket.

Two veteran fine art photographers here in Fort Wayne, Stephen Perfect and Karen Thompson, learned their craft before digital took over.

You hear them talking about working in silver due to the chemical composition of photographic film, but these days, they create, explore and teach the art of photography in both analog and digital formats.

WBOI's Julia Meek invited both Perfect and Thompson to talk about their work.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
