Young Democrats Of America Host National Convention In Indianapolis

Indianapolis plays host this week to the Young Democrats of America’s national convention.

And its presence helps Indiana’s chapter of the political organization.

The Young Democrats of America convention is four days of panels, training opportunities and speeches from major political figures – including three presidential candidates (Indiana’s own South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg among them).

Indiana Young Democrats President Derek Camp says he saw a difference here in the Hoosier State before the convention even began.

“I was getting calls from county chairs in different parts of the state and other individuals wanting to start chapters,” Camp says.

Camp says the convention also provides support for dozens of Young Democrat candidates on the ballot this fall.

“We are going to have opportunities for attendees to go get involved on those campaigns during the convention with phone banking or canvassing, if they are local,” Camp says.

The convention is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees.
