After Forward Indiana co-founders Sarah Thompson and Carlos Marcano spent their Sundays throughout the spring and summer months serving up free meals in the park to the city's hungry, they have developed a Community Pantry initiative to better address the problem.

Although COVID-19 forced Wellspring Interfaith Social Services to suspend all non-essential programs, the organization has been working non-stop to lend a hand to those in need and keep its population's food insecurity at bay.

Anti-hunger advocates from around the country say Congress needs to boost Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – or food stamp – benefits in the next COVID-19 relief package.


Families and parents have questions about how and when they’ll receive new pandemic-related food stamp benefits, but the state says families should be able to call the agency for answers. 


Starting this week, families whose children receive free or reduced lunch at school will receive additional SNAP benefits, or food stamps.
