Amtrak’s Hoosier State Line made one final round trip between Indianapolis and Chicago Sunday before discontinuing service. For some on board, it was an emotional day.

“So sadly some people will be, have to relocate, on my workforce here in Indianapolis … and it’s one of the saddest parts of this change with the Hoosier State,” says conductor Kevin Burns on the final intercom announcement before the train pulled into Indianapolis’ Union Station.



A public meeting was held at the downtown Allen County Public Library Wednesday for the proposed Chicago-Fort Wayne-Columbus passenger rail line.

The City of Fort Wayne and the Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) held a news conference Monday in Fort Wayne’s Baker Street Station to announce initial federal and state support for a new passenger rail train line.

Fort Wayne One Step Closer to Passenger Rail

Fort Wayne is one step closer to bringing back passenger rail to the city. A memorandum of agreement was announced Wednesday.

Nine mayors including Fort Wayne’s Tom Henry will sign a memorandum of agreement to take the next step towards a passenger rail corridor from Chicago to Columbus. That requires an Environmental Impact Study.

Each community along the route must contribute funds towards that study.  Fort Wayne has already secured its share – $200,000
