Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is one of the most frequently read and performed of all dramatic works.
And beginning this weekend, First Presbyterian Theater's new production of it, featuring an all-female cast, gives the bard's iconic revenge tragedy a fresh, new edge and voice.
The play's director, Thom Hoffrichter, has chosen a timeless setting and simple wardrobe for the drama, and believes that the most important part is hearing the words spoken in a way that is truthful, conveys the brilliance of the storytelling, and connects with the audience.
For a look behind the scenes, WBOI's Julia Meek invited Halee Bandt and Kate Black, the production's Hamlet and Claudius, into the studio to learn the intricacies involved in utilizing this role reversal within the story's dramatic framework, and the satisfaction it will be delivering to actors, and audience alike.
