This weekend, Turnstone, a center for children and adults with disabilities, finished its 120,000-square-foot expansion project.
The facility now includes a larger fitness center, renovated locker rooms and a warm-water pool with a wheelchair ramp and chair lift for easy access.
The project cost about $14.5 million. The fundraising was led by Ron, Suzanna, Mark and Anne Plassman, which is why the expansion is named the Plassman Athletic Center.
Brad Deutsch plays for the adult basketball league and is impressed with the four new, collegiate-sized courts.
“They’re so much faster than the old gym’s tile. It’s slippery and these are so fast,” Deutsch said. “It’s unbelievable. This complex is just amazing.”
According to a press release, Turnstone serves about 2,200 people with disabilities. It is one of the three largest U.S. Paralympic Sports Clubs in the country.
