WBOI Presents: July News Roundup

This week on WBOI Presents, we bring you the July News Roundup.

Attorney General Curtis Hill has been accused of groping four women. Our show opens with a conversation about the latest developments in the investigation of the charges against Hill. Niki Kelly from The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette spoke with Rebecca Green. 

Ben Clemmer and Rebecca Green discuss the latest on the April Tinsley case, and the possibility of Indiana passing a hate crimes bill.

Araceli Gomez-Aldana joins Ben Clemmer in the studio to discuss some of the biggest stories in public health in July. Araceli also covered the creation of a new FWCS curriculum. Her panel discussion from Issues & Ales on the state of teachers and education in Indiana will air next week.

Araceli also returned home to Whiting, Indiana. She attended the community's Pierogi Fest and brought back an audio postcard. 

Zach Bernard and Rebecca Green discuss the latest from Fort Wayne City Council. Councilman Jason Arp (R-4th) has resurrected a measure to eliminate taxes on business equipment. Mayor Tom Henry's proposal for paid family leave for city employees was tabled.

July marked the 50th anniversary of Fort Wayne's Three Rivers Festival. Lauren Castleman, a local artist, joined Ben Clemmer in the studio to discuss her latest entry in the Chalk Walk. 

Restaurants, businesses and even communities are dropping plastic straws with the goal to reduce waste from the hundreds of millions of plastic straws estimated to be used in the country each day. Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Lindsey Wright reports some people are thinking much bigger and they’re hopeful the straw movement  will lead to an overall reduction in all plastic use.

During July, Julia Meek actively covered Fort Wayne theatre productions. Julia joined Ben Clemmer in the studio to speak about performances around northeast Indiana, and to share her passion for all things theatre.
