Two more area counties are in the “blue” for COVID-19 spread, putting them in the “safest” designation according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Adams and Kosciusko counties joined LaGrange with decreasing 7-day positivity rates and overall positive case numbers.

Only two northeast Indiana counties, Whitley and Huntington, remain in the state’s “orange” category, the second-most serious for risk of community spread.

No new deaths were reported around the area on Wednesday, and only 14 statewide.

There were 129 new cases reported in the area on Wednesday. The area’s overall positivity rate for the past seven days dropped to 6 percent.

Indiana’s 7-day positivity rate is down to 4.1 percent, and there are 886 people hospitalized around the state with the illness, with 82 of those individuals in northeast Indiana.

Steuben County has the highest 7-day positivity rate in the area, with 10.1 percent.

Allen County announced plans to serve nearly twice as many residents at their vaccine clinic in early March with the addition of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Using the Moderna vaccine, the clinic is handling about 1,200 appointments each week. By switching to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, county officials hope to be able to handle an additional 1,200 appointments each week.

Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine is available to Hoosiers 60 and older, as well as health care workers and first responders.
