Drug overdose deaths have been on the rise in Indiana and across the country over the last several years, mainly at the hands of opioids.
According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Indiana had a nearly ten percent increase in drug overdose deaths between 2013 and 2014. This led to the creation of task forces led by Attorney General Greg Zoeller and Governor Mike Pence to combat opioid and heroin abuse.
WBOI’s Zach Bernard spoke with Fort Wayne Allen County Health Commissioner Doctor Deborah McMahan about how the issue has evolved over the last few years, both statewide and in the community, and what can be done to solve it.
