Children's Zoo Welcomes New Kangaroos To Mob

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo introduced 9 new Eastern Gray Kangaroos, directly from New South Wales, Australia, to their Australian Adventure Biome on Thursday.

The zoo’s mob of kangaroos- a mob is what a group of kangaroos is called- welcomed four males and five females, including a 7-month-old pouch joey that has yet to be named. A pouch joey is a baby kangaroo that spends most of its time inside its mother's pouch.

Lisa Flood, who oversees the Australian Adventure Biome at the zoo, says the kangaroos have been adapting well with other kangaroos and their new environment.

“Kangaroos are pretty good. They’re very social animals, they like being in that mob, there’s safety in numbers, so introductions are very easy with these guys,” said Flood.

Communication Director Bonnie Kemp seconds the easy adaptation of the kangaroos, and encourages the community to come meet the new additions.
