Following years of planning, legislation and construction, the Promenade Park at Fort Wayne’s riverfront is finally opening, and its introduction to the community is packed with events throughout the weekend.
Festivities will begin Friday at 5:30 pm, which is dubbed “Arts & Culture Day.”
Opening night will feature a ribbon cutting event before an evening of local music and comedy performances at the Sweetwater Bandshell. The night will also include tours of Promenade Park, numerous showcases from local artists and a light show on the St. Marys River.
Saturday is “Recreation Day,” and kicks off with boat races from 9:30 am until the early afternoon. Boat tours will then take place, before a kayak and lighted boat parade end the night. “Nature Day” highlights Sunday, with birdwatching, a native butterfly release and a scavenger hunt, among other festivities throughout the day.
