Purdue University President Mitch Daniels announced the selection of Ronald Elsenbaumer as Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s new chancellor.
Elsenbaumer will replace current chancellor Vicky Carwein, who is retiring after serving as chancellor for the last six years.
The selection comes after an open search, student and community input and four public forums. Elsenbaumer was one of four finalist seeking the position.
In a press release Elsenbaumer had this to say about his selection:
“It’s exciting to return to Purdue at what is a critical juncture at the Fort Wayne campus. With the challenge comes a tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to working closely with the campus and northeast Indiana communities to ensure we are educationally relevant to our students and economically impactful to the region.”
As chancellor, Elsenbaumer will have the task of overseeing the completion of the campus realignment and restructuring. He will be the first chancellor of the soon to be Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Since 1991, Elsenbaumer has worked at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he recently was the special advisor to the president.
He earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in chemistry from Purdue’s West Lafayette campus in 1973 and his doctorate in chemistry from Stanford University in 1978.
Elsenbaumer will start his position as chancellor on November 1.
