Allen County Fair Cancelled As COVID-19 Counts Rise

On Thursday, officials announced the cancellation of the Allen County Fair amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Even though Indiana is moving to Stage 4 of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s Back on Track plan this weekend, numbers around the northeast corner of the state continue to rise.

Allen County now has 2,036 cases of COVID-19, and 83 residents have died. No new deaths were reported Thursday.

The fair was originally scheduled to run between July 28 and Aug. 2. The Indiana State Fair was cancelled earlier this month.

In their announcement, the Allen County Fair Board said it was working with local youth participating in 4-H to provide a valuable experience for those involved.

Other counties in northeast Indiana have yet to announce the status of their fairs, a feature of the mid- to late-summer.

Noble County now has 311 cases of COVID-19. DeKalb County has 94, Steuben County has 100 and LaGrange County has 219. Numbers elsewhere in northeast Indiana have not risen as quickly as the four counties in the corner between Michigan and Ohio.
