March 3: COVID-19 Numbers Continue Improvement In State, Region

Noble County joined Kosciusko, LaGrange and Wabash counties across the state in attaining the safest level for COVID-19 community spread, going “blue” on the state’s coronavirus dashboard. 

All other northeast Indiana counties are in the yellow, the second-safest rating using the state’s two-metric score: 7-day positivity rate and cases per 100,000.

 

Only one new death was reported in the area on Wednesday, in Allen County, and the 7-day positivity rate for northeast Indiana was down to 4.7 percent. 

 

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues to expand, and on Wednesday encompassed those ages 50 and above.

 

There were 133 new positive cases of the illness in the area on Wednesday.

 

There are 56 northeast Indiana residents hospitalized with COVID-19, and 731 statewide.

 

The statewide 7-day positivity rate on Wednesday was 3.5 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

The number of new cases reported on Wednesday was at its lowest since Sept. 22.

 

Northeast Indiana numbers:

  • Adams County: 4 new cases for 3,239 total. No new deaths for 49 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.1%.
  • Allen County: 57 new cases for 36,046 total. 1 new death for 638 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.6%.
  • DeKalb County: 5 new cases for 3,899 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.2%.
  • Huntington County: 6 new cases for 3,462 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 7 new cases for 8,574 total. No new deaths for 111 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.7%.
  • LaGrange County: 3 new cases for 2,412 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.1%.
  • Noble County: 4 new cases for 5,101 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.6%.
  • Steuben County: 4 new cases for 3,392 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.8%.
  • Wabash County: 5 new cases for 3,323 total. No new deaths for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.8%
  • Wells County: 2 new cases for 2,585 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.8%
  • Whitley County: 3 new cases for 3,498 total. No new deaths for 37 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.2%.
